BA Internet Principle · 01
A person is not a user.
The language of “users” can reduce a human being to a profile that logs into a system. BA Internet begins instead with people who create meaning, carry relationships, make decisions and remain responsible for the direction of technology.
People > users · Judgement · Privacy · Responsibility
Core principle
Systems exist for people; people are not inputs for systems.
Accounts, profiles, sessions and behaviour logs are technical representations. None can contain a person’s intention, dignity, relationships or responsibility for decisions.
A person exceeds every metric; a system must know its own limits.
A useful distinction
A profile helps a system operate; a person carries a life and its responsibilities.

Design commitments
What does a system protect when it refuses to reduce people to users?
Clear human consentCritical decisions proceed through understandable consent, not silent defaults. Appeal and reversalPeople can challenge an automated decision and reverse an action. Minimum dataProfiles and behavioural data that are not needed for the task are not collected. Age-aware experienceChildren and young people receive distinct protections and guidance. Human supportWhen needed, the system opens onto an accessible line of human responsibility.
